IARC History

The ITU amateur radio station was created on 5th May 1962 under the auspices of UN Secretary General Mr. U Thant and ITU Secretary General Mr. Gerald C. Gross.

A special callsign 4U1ITU was assigned to the station and soon after it was recognized as a unique DXCC country. The station operates in accordance with privileges extended by the government of Switzerland and the ITU.
